Formula
Ethanol (g) = volume (mL) × (ABV/100) × 0.789; Standard drinks = ethanol g ÷ g per drink
- US standard: 14 g ethanol = 12 oz regular beer (5%), 5 oz wine (12%), 1.5 oz spirits (40%).
- UK unit = 8 g; UK health guidelines: ≤14 units/week for men and women.
- Ethanol density: 0.789 g/mL at 20°C.
