Age In Years Calculator

The Age in Years Calculator tells you how old you are in whole years. Enter your birth date and it returns your current age, correctly accounting for whether your birthday has occurred yet this year.

Formula

Years = Current Year − Birth Year, minus 1 if this year's birthday hasn't happened yet
  • The calculator subtracts your birth year from the current year, then checks whether your birthday has already passed this year.
  • If today is before your birthday this year, it subtracts one so you aren't aged up early.
  • This gives your age the way it is normally stated — the number of completed years.
  • A future birth date would give a negative or zero result.

Example Calculation

Inputs
  • Birth Date: 2000-01-01

Someone born on 1 January 2000 turns the corresponding age on 1 January each year; the calculator shows their completed years as of today.

Frequently asked questions

How old am I in years?
Enter your date of birth and the calculator returns your age in completed whole years as of today.
Does it account for whether my birthday has passed?
Yes. If your birthday hasn't occurred yet this year, it subtracts one year so the age is correct.
Does it handle leap-year birthdays?
Yes. The comparison is based on month and day, so 29 February birthdays are handled sensibly.
Why does my age only change on my birthday?
Age in years counts completed years, so it increases by one each year on your birthday.
Can I see my age in smaller units?
Yes. Use the Age in Months, Weeks, Days, Hours, Minutes or Seconds calculators for finer detail.
