Acceptance Rate Calculator
Result
Acceptance Rate 25.00%
Rejection Rate 75.00%
Not Accepted 75
The acceptance rate is the share of applicants or submissions that get accepted. Enter the number accepted and the total number of applications, and the calculator returns the acceptance rate as a percentage. It works for college admissions, job offers, journal or conference submissions, loan approvals and any other accept-or-reject process.
Formula
Acceptance Rate = (Number Accepted ÷ Total Applications) × 100
- Acceptance rate = (number accepted ÷ total applications) × 100.
- A lower percentage means a more selective or competitive process.
- The two numbers must cover the same pool — accepted applicants as part of all applicants.
- The rejection rate is simply 100 minus the acceptance rate.
- Use whole counts of people or submissions, not amounts or weights.
Example Calculation
Inputs
- Number Accepted: 25
- Total Applications: 100
If 25 out of 100 applicants are accepted, the acceptance rate is (25 ÷ 100) × 100 = 25%. The other 75% were not accepted.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate an acceptance rate?
Divide the number accepted by the total number of applications, then multiply by 100 to get a percentage.
What does a low acceptance rate mean?
It means the process is highly selective — only a small share of applicants get in, as with competitive universities or journals.
How is it different from the rejection rate?
They are complements: rejection rate = 100% − acceptance rate. A 25% acceptance rate means a 75% rejection rate.
What can I use this for?
College and university admissions, job applications, scholarship or grant awards, journal and conference submissions, and loan approvals.
Should I count only completed applications?
Yes. Use the total number of applications actually considered so the rate reflects the real pool of candidates.
